Coffee Thoughts

Two years ago I had an idea for a book. Devotional-style. Something you could pick up every day, maybe while drinking your morning coffee, that would give you a little boost to get you through the day ahead.

That book eventually became 365 Days of I Am Statements.

I put that book together fairly quickly. Edited it even more quickly. Then put it out as fast as I could too.

The result is a book that I am proud of…as a first attempt.

Being the little bit of a perfectionist that I am, I can not tell you how many times I have wanted to create a second edition that fixes all the little things that I wish I would have taken more time with, the formatting that I should have spent more time on, and the like.

But I haven’t.

I keep reminding myself that the first book is a starting point. Some of the best authors have first books that are less than their best. As long as I keep improving, I will consider myself in good company.

Now that I am eyebrows deep in writing the next book, I am making changes from what I did the first time. I am taking my time with this one. I am editing a little bit at a time as I do the writing. I am planning out my formatting. I am plotting the marketing ahead of time. I am figuring out all the little details along the way rather than just blitzing through the process blindly.

What an incredible experience!

I am already so proud of this next book because it is SO VERY Me!

I am crafting this whole book to feel like we are sitting down with a cup of coffee together in my kitchen, surrounded by the smell of some freshly baked coffee-infused scones. I might share the recipe. Maybe we are talking about coffee customs around the world. Maybe we dabble in a little chat about coffee history. I might hit you with a little known coffee fact. The coffee might be so good that it drags a coffee quote from my memory. But the best part of any cup of coffee with a friend is the conversation and reflection. This book is all of that wrapped between the front and back covers.

I have been working, researching, reading, planning, writing, and obviously, sipping for the past two years. Over the next couple of months, I am going to be giving you more and more snippets, pictures, behind-the-scenes, and more.

This project is definitely brewing up nicely. A true labor of love.

I can’t wait to share it with you!

For now, I’ll leave you with a quote that will be featured in the new book:

“My coffee is strong, my heart is soft, and my soul is open.”
— Jodi Hills, Coffee with Jodi, 2005
