Merry Christmas From My Family To Yours
Everything was just about done.
Presents were wrapped.
Groceries for Christmas Dinner were shopped for.
Decorating was all done.
I was so ready for Christmas.
But something wasn’t quite right last Sunday. My super-senior cat was starting to act differently. He came slowly for treats when I called him. He wouldn’t come sit on my lap when I sat on the couch. Sunday night, I couldn’t find him at all. He was hiding in a new hiding place and wouldn’t come out no matter what.
Monday was weirder.
Tuesday was concerning.
Wednesday, I knew what was happening. I had to make a decision that I didn’t want to make.
Today is Christmas and my family was all together. The kids were here. Presents were exchanged and opened. Dinner was enjoyed by all. Everything was amazing and we had a wonderful time together, laughing, playing games, and generally enjoying togetherness. This is what I have always wanted holidays to be like. I am blessed beyond measure and I am so incredibly thankful for it.
I’m not going to lie about it though…I miss my little old man. Puff lived a rough life for a good bit of it, but the past several years have been calm, peaceful, full of love, cuddles, and the best treats. The vet told me a few years ago that he would only live a year, but he was with me about 2 and a half. He claimed me as his human and we were close.
Missing my little guy didn’t keep me from enjoying the heck out of my family though. Having everyone together is pure joy for me, and cooking is one of my love languages. I made them two beautiful lasagnas (different styles), and cheddar bay biscuits. It was a wonderful day, even if I shed a few tears here and there.
I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for togetherness. I am thankful for love and laughter.
And I am thankful for the 16 years of love and companionship that I had with Mr. Puff.
So, from my family to yours…
Merry Christmas to All
and to All a Good Night!
